Park Bench Sleepers is a project of Heiko Sauter and Jens Kreuzer. Although Heiko and Jens have been active in the local music scene of Freiburg, Germany for a few years now and hold each other in high esteem, this album is actually the very first collaboration between the two. On Welcome to Our Duty Free Shop of Natural Highs you hear far less a Beatles influence than with Jens Kreuzer's earlier band The Pleasure (their concert at the Cavern Club is still remembered as legendary by those who attended back then), but you may detect many other references from both sides of the Atlantic, such as the Kinks to The Smiths and Oasis as well as CSNY, The Turtles or Pearl Jam. Such bridge-building on both sides of the Atlantic in itself is by no means new, think of Kinks boss Ray Davies producing the Turtles and their front singer duo refining many T.Rex singles with their backing vocals. There is no running after some retro trend either. Simply said, the music of Park Bench Sleepers is just this: timeless.
