One of the few drummers to attain superstar status, Sandy Nelson had several major hits and was regarded as an
influential performer at the start of the 1960s. Indeed, Sandys success paved the way for the likes of Keith Moon a
decade later. Sandys first major hit came with Teen Beat, a #4 success in 1959, which was followed by a succession of
others. Even a bad motorcycle accident in 1963, which resulted in the amputation of part of his right leg, failed to
dent his reputation, with Sandy very much in demand as a session musician thereafter.
