Ennio Morricone signed nearly five hundred film scores, a perhaps unequalled number. Still, the quality of his music is what impresses even more than its quantity. His works display exceptional care for the shaping of memorable themes, for refined timbres, for experimental solutions. He worked with some of the greatest directors of the twentieth century and won two Academy Awards. Besides his film music, however, he also created nearly 130 concert works, in virtually all genres of the classical tradition. He was able to build a bridge between two musical worlds, erroneously considered as entirely autonomous from each other.
