It was the first chords of their debut album that already caught our ears. A strange intimacy seems palpable. This band with the french sounding name VAGUE produce a well elaborated sound that - rightfully so - is often compared to the golden years of the early 80s to early 90s of underground rock music. Their gloomy postpunk references, distorted guitar surfaces and cool-headeddly whispered melodies impress not only the nostalgic. Pressing yet smooth. That is "In The Meantime". VAGUE are five young men from Vienna, stumbling around the narrower paths of life, staying off the main roads and avoiding big gestures. Serenity is one of their trademarks on stage. Their past two tours have led them through cities like London, Paris, Prague, Vienna, Hamburg and Berlin, presenting their two EPs "Television" and "Tempdays" The ten songs on "In The Meantime" were all, like the ones on their previously released EPs, written and sung by the three songwriters of the band (Gabriel Hyden, Konstantin Heidler and Simon Dallaserra) and accompanied by bass (Juan Marhl) and drums (Gregor Apfalter). Whoever writes a song, sings it. Afterwards it is arranged by all. Through this songwriting process a specific style becomes noticeable. "In The Meantime" is like a snapshot of a process and means a vague venture that wit hdraws itself from the possibility of beeing completely categorized - calm and stylistically confident yet without beeing completely finished.
