Turrentine, Stanley
Flipped Out On Love
Stanley Turrentine is considered to be the 60s quintessential ''Soul Jazz'' tenor saxophone player. His Blue Note
Records, under his own name and also with Hammond Organ legend Jimmy Smith, are considered the best that the genre has
to offer. His album ''Blue Moods'' with Gene Harris & The Three Sounds is considered to be essential listening. His 70s
and 80s records were more commercially oriented, but the 90s saw him return to the Soul Jazz forum and critical acclaim.
He died of a stroke in 2000, but remains among the top 20 tenor men of the twentieth century.
