The cornerstones of Tiwiza's origins are quickly established: guitars in the tradition of Clash (played a little more transparently), Motown soul and Stevie Wonder in some song structures, chaabi and rock in terms of power. The lyrics are written in Kabyle, the language of the Berbers. The external trigger for the start of this band is the murder of Matoub Lounès. The songwriter and political activist in the Algerian freedom struggle was murdered in 1998. The music of Tiwiza is clear, precise, played to the point. The band gives their singer all the space he needs, and he uses it - not only with his very precise and present voice, but also with a great variety of melodies. The songs are much more than normal rock songs: they are catchy and follow modern R&B structures. There is also a lot of Gnawa power in it.
