Tate, Laura
Smokeytango
Laura Tate is an American singer, actor, and advocate for arts education. Her repertoire ranges from jazz, blues and
roots music to rock, soul and country. With the toughness of a torch singer and the tenderness of a lover, Laura sings
new life into American standards and popular hits while also introducing remarkable songs specifically written for her.
Tate's choices of music reflect her many moods: sassy or sultry, funny or forlorn, irreverent or earnest. It is clear
she is having fun on stage or in the studio: critics praise her "contagious joie de vivre." Today, Laura lives in El
Paso, Texas, where she is well-known for her volunteer work for local women's shelters, Alzheimer's Association, Junior
League, and social justice causes. The El Paso Community Foundation's Laura Tate Fund for the Arts provides funds to
children and adults with financial needs who seek supplies or further training in music, fine arts, dance, or drama.
Laura received the President's Volunteer Service Award from both President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama.
