Early recordings of the legendary German free jazz ensemble feat. CAN-drummer Jaki Liebezeit! The Manfred Schoof Quintet of trumpet , flugelhorn and cornet player Manfred Schoof was occupied outstanding: Next to him, pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach, tenor saxophonist Gerd Dudek , Buschi Niebergall, bassist and drummer Jaki Liebezeit belonged to the band. When the Manfred Schoof Quintet made these recordings end of 1966 in the Trixi Studios, Munich, the release of Ornette Coleman's groundbreaking album "Free Jazz", that gave a whole new style a name, was 6 years ago. Shortly after and just before the present recordings were made from October to December, 1966, the Schoof Quintet had been part of Alexander von Schlippenbachs Globe Unity Orchestra, whose members also included the Peter Brotzmann, Trio and five other musicians. This ensemble played the Berlin Jazz Festival, and the was audience was shocked and frightened. Something new started! Free jazz! The recordings of this quintet , which only existed from 1966 to 1968 , belong definitely to the so-called milestones in the history of jazz.
