There is not a single object in the world which cant make a sound," says Julian Sartorius. This is why he added a wide range of objects to his drum- set: rare wooden mallets, other musical instruments, strange utensils and daily life objects. In his drum studio in Berne you can find rotating vibrators, Spanish goatbells, air tubes, bullroares, an old African marimba, rubber balls, a shruti box and an array of different metal: this is what Sartorius calls "creative chaos" or ,Zatter" in his Bernese dialect. Like many of his Euro- pean jazz drumming ancestors, Julius Sartorius has built his own percussion set to develop his his own sound.
