El Trio de Omar Rodriguez Lopez is the newest vehicle for the band's namesake, the hyper-prolific guitarist/songwriter for The Mars Volta. Utilizing primarily acoustic instrumentation, the Guadalajara-based El Trio also features Grammy-nominated vocalist Ximena Sariana Rivera and renowned upright bassist Aaron Cruz Bravo. Their debut album, Ciencia De Los Inutiles, was recorded in 2009 at Rodriguez Lopez's home studio in Zapopan, and features the moody, evocative youtube single, "Miercoles". Consisting of seven vocal tracks (each named for a day of the week) and an additional spoken word piece by Sariana Rivera, Ciencia... resembles the sleepy memoir of a tumultuous week in the lives of two lovers.
