Dark Night Mother came to life as a live-set in the form of a ritual brought by Stefano Pilia and Massimo Pupillo. They met a dozen years ago, in Bologna, when Stefano played as support for Zu with his project Blind Jesus. Massimo started to spend more time in Stefano's home-studio, in Bologna, which also became the new headquarters for Zu. Slowly and organically the two began to record acoustic home sessions, sessions that will form their first album of "Dark Night Mother". Massimo and Stefano worked together with four female vocalists (Olivia Arebalo, Lucinda Mahua, Alexandra Drewchin and Sandra Canessa or two Amazonian shamans, a New York singer, and a painter from El Salvador) which are the figure of the mother to emerge as a topos and generative archetype. The female voices become the main gravitational nucleus of the whole album. They also invited Cristiano Calcagnile, his contribution adds a special percussive lyricism to the two episodes in which he takes part. The album between Massimo and Stefano becomes much more than a collaboration. This album is a fertile ground on which a new identity blooms and opens the way for an overall project.
