Upon occasion, an artist delivers something special and unique by separating himself from others. Such is the case with John Nilsens newest release on Magic Wing, Places I Go. A collection if eleven pieces, this is Johns first solo piano recording in twenty-four years and seventeenth overall. The recording features nine original compositions which colorfully combine elements of folk, jazz and classical voicings. Nilsens compositions, "Bryces Song" and "Wishing I Had Wings", feature the strong melodic phrasing that have become a signature of John Nilsens sound and have been instrumental in Johns selling 3/4 of a million CDs worldwide. Places I Go also includes a clever rendition of John Lennons, "Imagine" as well as a beautifully played version of the folk song, "Finlandia". This recording is well done with thoughtful and clever playing and performances.
