In 1994 I was invited to attend the October Meeting in Amsterdam, which was traditionally grouped around members of the ICP ensemble plus invited guests from abroad. Misha's composition, however, was a direct result of a previous ICP Japan tour: A super short, exaggerated Japanese or rather Asian clich piece, maybe more a signal than a piece, and the way we had to deal with it was just open, whoever would call it would call it - or play it. Some time later I witnessed a performance of the ICP ensemble in Cologne. The group's performance was imbued with a positive, bold and immediate spirit of musical interplay. Every moment of the concert was of a radical preciosity. And my personal highlight was Misha's beautifully understated singing of 'De Sprong, O Romantiek der Hazen'. Ever since I have hoped to perform that piece once myself. Ultimately, after 20 years of the existence of 'The Longrun Development of the Universe featuring Matthias Schubert and Wolter Wierbos' and after Misha's departure to another world, I felt it was time to dedicate a CD to him, to play some of his compositions. I believe he would have enjoyed the fact that we apply our adventurous spirit to his music. At least Wolter says Misha would have liked it, and Wolter should know. Thanks for your listening.
