John Wesley Stone, The
Shiraibu
SHIRAIBU is the second album from the country/rockabilly/ blues Guernsey-based four piece, The John Wesley Stone.
Shiraibu (Guernsey patois for drinking session and pronounced sharra-boo) was recorded mostly live over two days in a
packing shed in the country parish of the Forest surrounded by geese, chickens and crows and mastered many miles away at
Gizzard Studios in London by Ed Deegan. The bands mix of country, rockabilly, blues and bluegrass, together with
high-energy live performances at everything from pubs, street parties and beer festivals to the Sark Folk Festival and
even the odd ferry, has won them a wide and loyal fan base. Band members include classically trained
violinist-turned-demon fiddler Nashville, who also plays guitar; banjoist, guitarist, gob-ironist and beardist Tinshack;
powerhouse drummer Tater, who also strums a mean uke; and on the doghouse bass, guitar and harp, unapologetic soul
singer, Hillbill.
