The Jaydees are five musicians who were united in their unquenchable passion for alt-country and Americana. Initially they played traditionals and covers of American music history under the name The Federales, but the songwriting talent of Joop van der Kuip and Derrick van Schie did not allow itself to be denied and so the idea was born to create an album of original material, resulting in 'Work with What We've Got'. In many alphabetically classified record collections the album might end up beside The Jayhawks, a band who operate in the same genre and is also fronted by two lead singers. The two singer/songwriters complement each other. Van Schie: "When writing songs Joop thinks mostly in atmospheres. He has a story he wants to convey musically. I think more along the lines of harmony and rhythm. With Joops songs often the shape is more open. I'm more 'pop' oriented although I think by working together we influence each other subconsciously. You can hear that quite clearly on songs like 'Darker Still and 'All the Life."
