Broadway roots. With music by Disney sweetheart ALAN MENKEN (Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas, Hercules),
lyrics by STEPHEN SCHWARTZ (Wicked, Schikaneder, Verwecken) and the usual brilliant translation by MICHAEL
KUNZE (Elisabeth, Rebecca, Tanz der Vampire). Piece on the theater stage is extravagant, also because its story
demands it. At the center is a battle between good and evil: Good is Quasimodo, who grows up in the bell tower of
Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, shielded from the rest of the world; His uncle, Archdeacon Claude Frollo, who is
apparently driven exclusively by fear of God and hatred, is evil. Obsessed with freeing Paris from lust and lewdness,
he encourages the city to go on a hunt based on one thing above all: his obsession with the beautiful Esmeralda. Our
story becomes a drama because Quasimodo - albeit in a much more tender, innocent way - feels the same way as he
does.
