Gathiens
Nesh
Gathiens debut album Nesh is a subtly complex, intelligently crafted, and extremely well-balanced album of instrumental
music that brings many fresh ideas to the drone-rock/post-metal genre that it loosely falls into. Recorded in northern
Ohio in the summer of 2006, this gem was originally intended to be a private release for family and friends and sat
dormant for some time until now finally seeing the proper release it deserves (and surprisingly, it still sounds fresh).
Written in a little over a year and the majority of it recorded over one weekend in a tiny beach home-turned recording
studio, each song seems to have its own unique feeling and quality. Although comparisons have been made to such bands as
Mono, Pelican, Boris, Shora, Earth, Tool, and even Pink Floyd, Gathiens is without a doubt a unique entity of its own
that will easily stand out from its instru-metal contemporaries. Sweetly technical drumming meshes perfectly with
expressive, dynamic guitar playing while subtle atmospheric and noise contributions add a certain ambience and overall
cinematic quality to the album. Without a doubt, this is the recording of a special moment in time by musicians truly
expressing themselves through music. This one is sure to last.
