Emmi U. Trio's new album Junassa is arranged for piano trio by Emmi Karoliina Uimonen, whose Finnish-language lyrics are both of this moment and timelessness. Uimonen's folk-pop vocals build a bridge between the Finnish songwriting tradition and jazz, which is the album's main genre. The music is strongly influenced by African-American and Brazilian rhythm music and Finnish folk music. You can also hear influences from Pekka Streng and Ultra Bra. In the arrangements of the songs, space has been given to the stories of the songs and, respecting the values of jazz, to the instrumental narrative of each player, each of whom Uimonen has chosen to keep in an equally important role.
