Recorded between 2020 and 2022, The Sudbury Inn depicts a lieu, where in 1862, the american poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote the "Tales of a Wayside Inn" basing it on the real stories of seven travelers telling their tales around the tavern's fireplace. Some of Deleyaman's lyrics on this album are partly inspired by or make direct references to the "Tales of a Wayside Inn". Other lyrics are borrowed from poets such as Paul L. Dunbar, Sara Teasdale, Emily Bronte, Paul Verlaine and John Brereton. All other words are written by Aret Madilian. Five new musicians have joined Deleyaman during the recording sessions of The Sudbury Inn. Eric Pland on tenor sax and flute, Pierre Baillot on soprano sax, oud and bansuri, Artyom Minasyan on duduk, Madalina Obreja on violin and newly recruited drummer Benoit Fournier. The album opener is the soft folk oriented "Spring Song" followed by the track "A Tale" whose lyrics set the mood of the album describing the dwelling where the stories of the travelers will be told. The upbeat track "Willow" which follows, borrows its lyrics from a poem by Sara Teasdale. "Many Years Late" is an intimate song sang by Beatrice about a love found late in life. The title track "The Sudbury Inn" makes a direct reference to Longfellows "Tales of a Wayside Inn". Then follow two ballads including"Another Evening" and "La Saulaie", a song in french with words from Paul Verlaine. "The Late Hour" borrows its words from a poem written by Emily Bronte whose lyrics contrast the jazzy feel of the song and the tenor sax played by Eric Pland. "Moment of Peace" is an atmospheric track where the voices, wind instruments and the oud are in tranquil conversation. "Gold is Fading into Gray" is a bittersweet track describing nightfall borrowing words from Paul Laurence Dunbar. Its brass, string and violin arrangement is reminiscing of a mariachi piece. The album closer "Silent Ship" whose lyrics were written by Aret Madilian is a song dedicated to those we love who are no longer with us.
