The first stimulus for this production came in 2016. At that time, Rino Marrone invited the Coffee Street Trio to take part in a project about Bach's Art of Fugue. The underlying idea was to focus on some fugues, performed in alternation between their original version and jazz arrangements. These arrangements take as their starting point some elements from the original material (themes, harmonies and structures), as well as ideas from the historically informed performance practice. This builds up dialogues involving musical styles and genres, light and shadow, but most particularly the performing artists, who are called to develop an integral and integrated narrative. The project resulted in a concert which is now reproduced in this recording.
