Chance, James -& Les Contortions-
Incorrigible
The new James Chance album Incorrigble! is the fi rst
genuine album by the pope of No Wave for a long time.
It was recorded in Brittany and New York from the end of
2011 to summer 2012. Produced by Frank Darcel (Alan
Stivell, Etienne Daho, Marquis de Sade, GNR, etc.); The
CD refers basically to the golden hours of the funk jazz
inventor but leans too on all the new exciting musical
material emerging from the contemporary Big Apple. The
basic tracks were recorded in Rennes (Bretagne, French
capital of inventive rock!), with The French Contortions, a
band that plays along with James live in Europe and
Japan for fi ve years now. That powerful combo (Pierre
Fablet on guitars, Jack Auvergne on bass and Alex Tual
on drums) follows the leader wherever he wants to go or
prospect with his marvelously crazy sax and those lyrics
that punch you where needed. Most of the overdubs were
made in New York with guitarist Ivan Julian (ex-Richard
Hell and The Voidois), Norman Westberg from the Swans,
jazzman sax player Robert Aaron, and the astonishing
trumpet player Mac Gollehon (Temptations, Gil Scott
Heron, David Bowie, etc.). If youve never been Dislocated
or visiting Terminal City, time has come! And dont forget
youll have to be Incorrigible too
