Byrd, Donald
Cat Walk
Detroit-born trumpeter Donald Byrd was one of the most expressive players of the instrument. Recording for leading jazz
labels such as Savoy and Blue Note from the late 50s, he collaborated with Cannonball Adderly, Lee Morgan, John Coltrane
and Herbie Hancock. The 1962 Blue Note release The Cat Walk was a critical success; most songs were written by pianist
Duke Pearson, who makes crucial contribution, along with understated drummer Philly Joe Jones, relaxed strolling bass
from Laymon Jackson, and rousing sax from longstanding collaborator, Pepper Adams.
