The Mexican bassist, composer and arranger may not yet be known to most European genre fans - but his gift for writing traditional ska and rocksteady tunes and letting them meet the rhythms and harmonies of Latin America with heart and sophistication are impressive. The Spanish LIQUIDATOR label is of course a top address for this brand new album, not least because the label roster has long been looking south across the Atlantic. The ten tracks presented here are nothing less than bright madness, as if Studio One and Treasure Isle were celebrating a lounge party with the Buena Vista Social Club. Latin-flavoured offbeats, sometimes perfectly rounded off with Spanish vocals.
