How Does Origami Sound
Origami is to fold, as music is to sound" (Paul Jackson)
Bassist Matthias Akeo Nowak has been leading the Koi Trio since 2010, which started the debut album of the same name in
2012 and in 2014 released his second album with the soloists Sebastian Gille and Rainer Bohm. His latest project 'How
does
Origami sound? ' was realized in October 2020 during the pandemic, supported by MKW-NRW emergency aid
2020 and the Musikfonds eV 2021.
The art of folding origami leads from simple division of a sheet of paper to complex shapes. I try this way to go in my
compositions: folding and unfolding, experimenting and generating new material from one source. An origami folding
structure (crease pattern) is made for specifying and suggesting sound constellations and chronological sequences within
a piece.
